Terms of Service
Effective 12 October 2026 · Last updated 13 October 2026 (renamed from LegalByte Edu to EduByte)
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are the agreement between you and LegalByte Sdn Bhd (Registration No. 202501044817 (1646225-D)) (“LegalByte”, “we”, “us”) for your use of EduByte, our exam practice and tutoring service at legalbyte.my/edu. By creating an account you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use EduByte.
1. What EduByte is
EduByte is a study aid for candidates preparing for the Malaysian Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination. You write practice answers, EduByte marks them against marking points using artificial intelligence (AI), and an AI tutor helps you work on the gaps. EduByte also gives you a topic index of past papers, a reader for legislation and judgments, and a view of your own progress.
EduByte is independent. It is not run by, endorsed by or connected with the Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB) or any examining body, college or university.
2. Who can use EduByte
EduByte is for individuals aged 18 or over who are studying for their own purposes. During the beta you need a valid invite code. Your account is for you alone: do not share your login, your invite code or your account with anyone else. You must give us accurate details when you sign up and keep your password secret. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account.
3. EduByte is in beta
EduByte is an early version that we are still building. Features, question sets and limits may change, be interrupted or be withdrawn, and we may end the beta. We will give you reasonable notice before we close the service or make a change that takes away something you rely on. To keep the service fair and running, each account has usage limits, such as a number of tutor messages and marked answers a day and a monthly study allowance. The app shows the limits that apply to you.
4. A study aid, not legal advice and not a guarantee
Please read this section carefully.
- AI can be wrong. Marks, feedback, tutor answers, summaries and suggested authorities are generated by AI. They may be incomplete, out of date or incorrect, even when they look confident.
- Marks are estimates. A mark or a readiness score in EduByte is an estimate from your practice. It is not a prediction or a guarantee of your result in any examination, and real examiners may mark differently.
- Check every authority. EduByte labels the cases and statutes it cites as verified, listed, unverified or not in our library. Always confirm an authority in your own materials or the primary source before you rely on it.
- Our study content is still being reviewed. Questions, marking points and topic tags were prepared with the help of AI, and some have not yet been reviewed by a qualified lawyer.
- Not legal advice. LegalByte is not a law firm and does not practise law. Nothing in EduByte is legal advice, and using EduByte does not create a lawyer and client relationship. Do not use EduByte to advise anyone on a real legal problem.
- Your studies remain yours. EduByte supports your preparation; it does not replace your course, your lecturers, the official syllabus or your own reading.
5. Rules for using EduByte
You must not:
- use EduByte during an examination or assessment, or in any way that breaks the rules of an examining body or your institution;
- share your account, or let another person practise or be marked under your name;
- copy, scrape, download in bulk, republish or sell our questions, marking points, feedback or legal library, or use them to build a competing product;
- use EduByte, or what it produces, to train, fine-tune or build an AI model or a dataset for one;
- try to extract the instructions, prompts or marking logic behind EduByte, whether by questioning the AI or by any other means;
- access EduByte with bots, scrapers or other automated tools, or record or capture it in order to copy how it looks or works;
- use EduByte on behalf of a business that offers a competing service;
- put into EduByte confidential information or personal data about real clients or other people;
- try to get around usage limits, break our security, or access another person’s account or data;
- try to make the AI ignore its instructions, or use it to produce unlawful, abusive or misleading content; or
- use EduByte in breach of any law.
6. Your answers and messages
You own the answers you write and the messages you send (“Your Content”). You give us permission to store and process Your Content only to run EduByte for you: to mark your answers, to answer your questions, to show your progress, to keep the service secure and to meet our legal duties.
We do not use Your Content to train AI models, and the AI providers we use are not allowed to keep it or train on it. We may look at combined statistics that do not identify you, such as which topics most students find hard, to improve our questions and marking. How we handle your personal data is explained in our
Privacy Policy.
7. Our content
The EduByte software, questions, marking points, feedback, topic tags and design belong to LegalByte and are protected by law. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use them for your own study while you have an account. Past examination papers belong to their publisher; EduByte links to them and does not reproduce them. Legislation and judgments come from public sources. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely to improve EduByte.
Our confidential technology. The parts of EduByte that are not public, including its prompts, instructions, marking logic and the way our question bank is built, are LegalByte’s confidential information and trade secrets. You must not disclose or use them except to study with EduByte. We may use technical measures, such as rate limits, usage monitoring and marker entries in our content, to detect and prevent copying.
8. Price
EduByte is free during the beta. The monthly study allowance shown in the app is a usage limit, not a charge. If we introduce paid plans, we will show you the price and the terms first, and you will pay nothing unless you choose a paid plan. Any fees you then pay will be non-refundable, except where Malaysian law requires otherwise.
9. Ending or suspending your account
You can stop using EduByte at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing us (section 14). We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if we need to protect EduByte or other students, or if the law requires it. Where it is practical and lawful, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to put things right. What happens to your data when an account closes is set out in the
Privacy Policy.
10. Our responsibility to you
We will provide EduByte with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, EduByte is provided as it is and as available: we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors, that its marks or answers are correct, or that using it will lead to any examination result.
To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for loss that we could not reasonably have foreseen, for loss of opportunity, or for the outcome of any examination, and our total liability to you in connection with EduByte is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid us for EduByte in the 12 months before the claim and (b) Ringgit Malaysia five hundred (RM500).
Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 or any other law that cannot be excluded, or limits our liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
11. Your responsibility to us
You are responsible for how you use EduByte and for Your Content. If your breach of sections 2 or 5 causes us loss, for example because you shared our question bank or put another person’s confidential information into EduByte, you agree to make good the reasonable loss that results.
If our content or technology is copied. If you break rules (c) to (g) of section 5 or misuse our confidential technology (section 7), we may close your account immediately. You must stop, delete everything you took and anything built from it, and not use or sell it. You must also compensate us for the loss it causes, hand over any profit you made from it, and pay our reasonable costs of investigating and enforcing, including legal costs. We may ask a court for an urgent order to stop the copying. Access to EduByte gained by breaking these rules is access without our permission, and nothing here limits our rights under the Copyright Act 1987, the Computer Crimes Act 1997 or any other law.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as EduByte develops. We will post the new version here and, where a change is important, tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree to a change, you can stop using EduByte and ask us to delete your account. Using EduByte after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. If something goes wrong, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it with you. If we cannot, the courts of Malaysia have jurisdiction. This does not stop you from bringing a claim before the Tribunal for Consumer Claims where the law allows.
